Internet Marketing Basics

What are the top two approaches to internet marketing? A Beginners Guide

When we think about Internet marketing, there are two common approaches. I’m going to be blunt with you. There is no get rich quick scheme. With that in mind, there’s a wrong way and a right way to internet success. There is only one approach to a long term solution. They two methods are,

  • The Wrong Approach
  • The Right Approach

The Wrong Approach to Internet Marketing

Many beginners take the wrong approach, lured by promises of quick results. Forgive me, if you’re in the same mindset, you’re not going to see any positive results in your business. A prevalent mistake includes trying to use too many tactics and methods.

Decisive action requires a definiteness of purpose.  If you try to incorporate multiple strategies, it will likely end in confusion. Confusion blocks decisive action. Any worthwhile system is going to require focus and work. When you plant a crop in the ground, don’t you have to water and nurture those seeds before it will yield a harvest? Business, whether online or offline, is the same. It will take time, and cultivating, and consistent focus to bring your vision to reality.

Online, the wrong way is also called the Black hat methods. Due to laziness or ignorance, if you try to use shortcuts, called Black hat methods. You may get yourself banned from the Internet before you’ve really begun. Before you can make a dime online, if you’re banned, you eliminate the option of making money online before you’ve even really started.

Internet marketing forums like Warrior forum are populated with Black hat methods. In that case, you’ll be tempted to purchase many tools and advice. Don’t get sucked into a series of one offer after another that easily distract you from a clearcut method. They promise quick results but in reality, they only delay you. It is the biggest mistake many beginners are making.  I had previously been sucked into a vortex of purchasing endless products and the promises they contained. A note of caution here, there are no shortcuts to success. It is a kind of mind trap. If you can avoid such a mind trap by reading this, this is one reason for writing to you today.

My dear friends, Please accept the truth; there is no shortcut or magic hack to achieve success.

An Internet marketing strategy’s real strength comes from providing or creating a product or service, then letting customers do the selling. Developing such tools will help you to achieve success. Seeing a need and creating a digital tool or product will propel your journey toward success.

Once a website or product is known and ranked, many visitors are attracted. It is those visitors we call traffic. The more traffic to your website or offer, the more advertisers are attracted to your site as well. If you include share buttons or links alongside your content, you encourage social sharing. This sharing element we call the Viral component to grow your brand.

Remember, there are over 5.6 Billion daily search queries on Google and 5 Billion more video views on YouTube alone. Once your topic, niche, or brand become known on the Internet, the opportunity arises for you to sell advertising space on your website in addition to your brand, product, or service. This is called brand awareness. As you can see, the odds are actually in your favor. With so much traffic seeking answers.

The Right Approach to Internet Marketing

With the knowledge that billions of daily seekers are looking for answers to their questions, the odds of success are high for those ready, willing, and able to do the work. Let’s focus now on the three pillars you’ll need to achieve Internet marketing success. It is branding, quality, and promotion. Before you do a marketing campaign for your website, make sure you do all three of these. I’ll go into more detail about branding, quality, and advertising (promotion) below.

How to be a successful Internet Marketer?

It starts with a strong brand, which you can build from the ground up. A strong brand begins with the basics – the right name, good products or services, and a compelling sales pitch.

A good sales pitch is simply communication. What is the message that will attract hungry buyers to your offer? Are you going to tell a story? Will you include elements like scarcity or countdown timers. With focus and practice, you can improve the quality of these three elements.

The more research you do into your market and the industry you’re in, the better you’ll identify what’s working and not. If you’re selling the same types of products that everyone else is selling, you have a lot to lose by re-inventing the wheel and building a different brand.

Ask yourself, what about your product or service is different?

This is where market research and asking questions to consumers is essential. Look up the website of the competition—complete Google research into their campaigns.  Google Keyword Planner is widely regarded as the best tool for keyword research. You must have an AdWords account to access it, and it’s still free.

Another option is merely looking at the raw HTML code for the website and seeing what keywords they are using in their title tags. Look at Google Console to see what the volume and competition are for that category. Low to Medium competition for a keyword or long-tail keyword with high volume indicates there is room in the niche for some competition. As well, ranking and indexing will come faster.

With ranking come views, and views come leads and sales.

What are the things the competition claims their product does, and how well does it do those things? What are the pain points regarding the current best product in this category? There must be shortcomings or disappointments.

For this research, go to forums and Facebook groups, join up, and see what the conversation or complaints are about. You don’t need to pile on with negative comments, but ask leading questions so you can flush out if there are pain points or negative sentiments. Is there a niche or service that you can identify that people state they want but are having trouble getting fulfilled? This void in service or quality service may be your opportunity. We’ve compiled a prelaunch checklist you can download, see it here:

Branding gives you credibility and allows you to differentiate yourself from the competition. It’s a noisy world. Different is better. If everyone is the same, then what’s the point?

When people are unsure of who they should turn to, the best approach is to offer something unique that you know you can deliver. Once you have a name for yourself, you can start building a strong web presence. It will give you credibility, which you’ll need to command a higher price for your products or services.

How to do branding?

Branding starts with market research. It would help if you researched the niche that you have the expertise, audience in that niche, and your competitors. Then choose a business name and write an attractive slogan for your business.

Pick the logo and then spread your business name along with your web presence in many social media, article directories, forums, etc.… Also, frequently send your valuable tips and tricks in these mediums to build your brand. It will bring you traction in the business.

Always remember user experience is your primary goal. Provide value and quality, the sales will follow.

Quality is matters more than Quantity.

Internet marketing is all about quality. It is perhaps the most crucial rule for internet marketing, especially for beginners. There is no place for shoddy artistry in the world of marketing. Suppose you’re paying someone to design a website for you. In that case, they’re going to do their absolute best to give you the most efficient and effective website possible.

Remember that you don’t necessarily have to pay an arm and a leg to get a great website built – it just takes a little extra effort to get it done right.

One of the biggest complaints that most people have about online businesses is that they are not customer-centric. It is not a criticism of the company per se, but of the business itself. People want to be treated right (and it’s also OK to treat people right).

To succeed on the Internet, you must build a culture that is centered around quality.

It may seem like a tall order at first, but you will realize that this is indeed possible with a little perseverance.

What is the standard for quality?

As an internet marketer, you have the opportunity to set the bar for quality. Unfortunately, many people fall short of meeting this bar, which leads to dissatisfaction with their marketing efforts. It would help if you didn’t give up on the idea of improving over time and instead keep working towards improving your methods every single day.

The best marketers are always working towards improving their craft, and that’s what helps them excel. We have developed a prelaunch checklist that will help you fulfill the quality standard and get sales right away when launching your first product.

After Branding and Quality, what’s next? It’s Promotion.

In terms of tools that can help you succeed, you’re going to need a strategy to promote yourself. For the most part, internet marketing requires a steady stream of visitors to your website or landing pages. Some marketers use article marketing to drive traffic, but it does take a while for the articles to get to the front page of search engines such as Google.

You’re best off writing and submitting fresh articles regularly to various article directories. Google is the most dominant, with over 92% of organic search. Posting new content will give your site a better opportunity of appearing higher when someone is searching for the information or products you’re promoting.

One of the best ways to be the best in internet marketing is by making sure that all of your content is unique.

Remember, you’re not the only one promoting the items or services in your space. By writing and submitting unique content, you’re taking the guesswork out of the equation. Different is better.

Say that you in a niche with much completion. You want to compete on a different level. With value always in mind, add some video to your content. Link out to your youtube videos. Have your youtube videos link out to your website content. Diversify the type of articles you’re writing. Suppose the completion is doing long foundational pieces with pictures. In that case, you instead do short question-answer posts with linked short videos.

Always be sure to include links back to your other sites, social media pages, and anything else that you may think. It will help people understand what you are doing and how they can benefit from it. Also, you can repurpose content, posting semi-duplicate content but on your social media accounts and websites. Nothing says authority like publishing an ebook with a video companion.

  1. The best way for beginners to make Internet marketing work is to start small.  Starting with a limited budget and a small marketing budget is one of the most important things you can do to get the best results.
  2. One of the first things you should do when learning Internet marketing is to create an online marketing plan.  An online marketing plan will include your marketing tactics, strategies for advertising and promoting your business, and tracking results. Your marketing should consist of paid advertising and organic content advertising. You may need to invest in targeted paid advertising, to begin with, to gain some brand awareness and traction.
  3. Be creative in your methods of generating traffic online. Some of them require more time than others. Writing a blog is a fabulous way to generate traffic. You can easily set up your blog using a blogging tool like WordPress. By leaving relevant comments on other blogs, you can get your blog to be very popular. Also, any comments posted on your blog need to be replied to. This is called engagement, and Google looks very favorably on it.
  4. Producing quality written information on your site about your product or service is essential. Anticipate having to do this. If you can do the writing with a Grammarly type program’s aid, then all the better. You can hire a copywriting service. However, it’s going to add to the costs, time, and possibly frustration. It’s best to take it into your hands and do the writing yourself. Get someone to help you edit and curate your content. I’m fortunate to have a wife to prove all my work. When working on my English degree, she reviewed all my work. I’m lucky to have her still proofing all my writing.  Be resourceful.  Perhaps there is a retired School teacher in your town that can help you with your writing. Buy them lunch once a week but be creative. Blogs, articles, and question and answer forums are all considered Content Marketing.  These efforts should be about 60% of your overall marketing plan.  Look at Content marketing as your primary long term method of marketing.
  5. Advertising your website online should include exciting and informative content. It is the best way to show your readers that you know what you’re talking about and an expert in your field. Have your readers click on your links to visit your leading site and see what you’ve got. The more people who get to your site, the higher your ranking will be in the search engines.
  6. Another right way to build up a website with lots of traffic is by using free methods to drive traffic to your website. By submitting articles to article directories, posting in forums, and social bookmarking all produce good results.
  7. Content is fantastic for generating traffic. 5.6 billion searches are done daily thru Google. Make sure that any traffic that you do get is quality traffic. To be sure you’re getting quality traffic, use long-tail keywords. Long-tail keywords are particular.  In other words, make sure that the people who come to your website will be interested in what you have to offer. Don’t forget to make an offer.  Be clear about what you are offering.
  8. If you can add Video and mixed media to the site, visitors will stay longer.  Over 5 billion videos are watched every day on YouTube.  Video marketing cannot be overlooked. You more than double the power of organic search content, with over 62% of Google universal searches.  Add Video to your Marketing plan and enjoy a 41% higher click-thru rate than plain text-based content.  Advantages include more traffic to your website, increased brand awareness, and a better return on investment on your content creation efforts if you have Video. Forrester Research’s recent study reveals that Video is 50 times more likely to achieve organic page ranks in Google than plain text-based results.  This can be attributed to less competition for keywords, specifically long-tail keywords in the video space.  ComScore data shows people stay on a site with video content an average of two minutes longer.  Google likes this because it shows that your content quality is engaging. You can read the entire article here about VIDEO SEO: or download the VIDEO SEO Checklist here:
  9. Internal linking, linking your website from one page to another page within your site also helps with stickiness. Simply put, it keeps visitors on your site. On the other hand, inbound linking shows other businesses referring to your business’s website as an authority reference. According to Mozposts with videos included will attract nearly three times more inbound linking domains than a dull text post. And posts with all three media types – videos, images, and lists – attract almost six times more inbound linking domains than plain text content.
  10.  When visitors decide to leave, have an exit pop ready to thank them for visiting. Offer a free gift or lead magnet in exchange for their contact information. Other pop-ups during the visit affect user experience and are frowned upon by Google.
  11. Pay-Per-Click advertising to a landing page or website is another way of reaching your target audience and generating sales. With PPC adverts, you want to make sure you set your budget before buying ad space.  It will allow you to find the best places to advertise at the right price. It’s also essential not to go overboard. Getting distracted by other campaigns will not get you anywhere. One good hint that pays per click is working in your niche is to see the costs.  High converting campaigns that are profitable will have a high price per click ratio.
  12. You should have already created a Facebook group.  A place where product fans and your targeted audience have already gathered. If you overlooked it, please go back and review our Prelaunch Checklist. You can download it here:               Anytime you post new content on your site, post it on social media accounts. Typically just the intro paragraph and a cloaked link that links out to the article on your site. When posting on LinkedIn, it’s OK to post the entire article, also with link outs to your website. We also use LinkedIn to post out to our Bio’s.  Other marketers or product developers may see your writing, read your Bio, and approach you for collaborations. There will be opportunities and offers to externally link with them if they produce similar material in the same niche.
  13. Systematically add new and engaging content to keep your readers hooked. Initially, you’ll want to complete and publish at least 30 blogs, articles, and response posts of 1500-2500 words of quality content. Provide free downloads of lists or specialty topic they can take with them. Be sure that your branding and contact information are printed clearly on all downloadable materials.  Use this material as lead magnets, always get visitors’ contact information when they exit your site. Make it a rule, no interstitial pop-ups. The only time you should have a pop-up is upon leaving the website or landing page.
